Fall, the crisp cool and fresh air is also the most beautiful time to view the vibrant colors of Mother Nature around us. Every fall we take a trip up north not only to view the beautiful fall colors but also to visit many of the roadside fruit and vegetable stands, pumpkin patches and restaurants.
Choosing the time to visit at first was a difficult task as there are several websites that claim to know when the leaves are at their peek color. Through trial and error we have found that a week prior to their claim of when trees are at their peek to be the best time to take a long drive in many of the backroads of Michigan. Our favorite place to go is in the upper/lower Michigan area and have found that the 3rd week in October is the best time to view the peak colors. Going too early and then there will be too much green and going too late you end up with too many bare trees.
We also advise to take your time. Plot out your route before you leave and travel on the backroads and invest in some of those farmer produce stands, pumpkin patches and finally include lunch and dinner while on the road at an out of the way restaurant. You won’t be disappointed.
