Dennison Exterior Solutions & Gutter Toppers as roofing contractors in Benton Harbor Michigan were tasked with installing proper ventilation on this project wherein there were not only multiple attics but insulation that had been installed years ago that blocked the air passages underneath the roofs decking prohibiting proper airflow for the eave edge to the peak where we would install CertainTeed’s Ridge Vent with an external baffle. In addition, this home also did not have any intake vents, as there was no overhang/soffits. We resolved that issue by installing CertainTeed’s Edge Vent which works in tandem with the Ridge Vent with an external baffle that creates the Bernoulli effect which draws cooler dryer air in through the roofs lowest point (eave edges), circulates throughout the attic and exhausts through the Ridge Vent. This vitally important process has multiple positive affects not only in saving energy by reducing cooling costs, ending the moisture problem of warping the roofs decking including water droplets matting down the insulation reducing the insulation “R” value but also not only validates the new roofs warranty but turns that 30 year warranty shingle into a 50 year warranty eliminating the need to replace the roof again in 20 to 25 years.

In most cases our Master Shingle Applicators gain access to the attic through the roof deck after the older roofing material has been removed and in this case adjusted the insulation to create the required air passage under the roofs deck and above the insulation for proper air flow. Our process also allows our customers to have us add additional insulation like our Heat Deflector which deflects 97% of the heat up and away from the inside of the home during the warm months and deflects the heat down into the home during the colder months when they are heating the interior. Our Heat Deflector insulation not only adds the equivalent of and R 30 insulation value to the existing insulation but also studies by the Department of Energy has proven that this product depending on the structure can reduce month heating and cooling costs by up to 45 percent.
Winter Guard Ice & Water Shield with Diamond Deck Synthetic Felt
After resolving the airflow situation with the roofs attic we proceeded to replace any bad wood decking as well as installing the proper flashings to all walls and eave edges. We also installed CertainTeed’s Winter Guard ice and water shield six feet wide on all eave edges, three feet wide in all valleys and where any lower roof meets a wall including around any other protrusions through the roof. This process ensures – no callbacks, which increases customer satisfaction.
